Interactivity #2

"If a picture is worth a thousand words, then surely those words can open a window to the past."

  1. Nice quote Scott! Although I chose the computer as my most influential technology to History education, the camera did open up a window to the past by allowing people to see visuals of what has been written. I think this is especially important for teaching students in classrooms today, so they can make a connection in their minds between the text and the photograph.

  2. Scott Lance, I knew you were going to pick something interesting and as someone who has fought overseas, I think it's fitting that you chose the photograph. Not only it is a great way to document things as a primary source, but it still leaves room to interpret what is really going on.

  3. I like the choice Scott. Photography really revolutionized how history was being taught. Instead of students relying on plain text, they were able to really see it for themselves. Even now we see the pictures and videos come out of Syria and I feel it makes that much more of an impact, rather than just texts, because we can see the atrocities for ourselves, and i feel like it hits home more.

  4. Photography was a great choice! Pictures are so valuable when it comes to teaching, and will allow students to relate what they are reading in the text to an actual image. The use of photography is extremely beneficial for those students who are visual learners. Photographs can sometimes explain a situation or historical event more than words can, and can also have a larger impact.
